FIELDING
1.
A team must field a minimum of 8 players in each game
(If the ninth player arrives, she can go in at any point
in the game, into the 9th batting position
2.
If there are only 8 players, the 9th (empty)
spot in the line-up will NOT be an automatic out.
3.
If 8 players are not present at game start, there will
be a 15 minute grace period (which is included in the
1.5 hour game time)
4.
After the grace period has expired, game is forfeit
(loss to team with less than 8 players)
5.
Blood Rule: A game may be interrupted to allow a player
who is bleeding and or has blood on their uniform a
reasonable amount of time to treat and cover the wound,
or the clean or change the uniform (up to 5 minutes) as
per Softball B.C. rules. If this cannot be done in the
allotted time, then a substitution must be made (using
the open-substitution rule as stated by Softball B.C.)

RUNS
1.
There is a 5 run limit at bat until 4 innings have been
completed. The 5th inning onward is open.
2.
There will be a “15 runs after 3 innings” mercy rule and
a “10 runs after 5 innings” mercy rule.

SUBSTITUTION
-
1.
Any player that has an injury prior to
the game and is unable to run the bases
for fear of causing further injury may
have a substitute runner, AFTER reaching
first base, and it must be the person
furthest from the batter in the batting
order.
2.
This must be requested in the pre-game
talk at home plate between the umpires
and the coaches.
3.
A player injured during the game may
have a substitute runner (following the
guidelines in ‘1’)
4.
To speed up playing time, when there are
two out and the catcher is on any base,
she may be replaced with a courtesy runner by the
person furthest from the catcher in the
batting order

TIME LIMITS
1.
Game time is 1 hour 30 minutes
2.
The 15-minute grace period is included in the 1 hour 30
minute game time
3.
All stoppage for injuries or blood rule is included in
the 1 hour 30 minute game time
4.
A new inning will start if there is ANY time left in the
1hr, 30 min game time allotment.
5.
If the lights go out in the middle of an inning, the
score at the end of the last complete inning shall stand
as the final score, as long as there were at least 3
complete innings played.
If there are less than 3 innings played, the game
must be rescheduled.
This applies to rain outs as well.
6.
Time limit for year-end tournament is to be decided by a
league vote.
7.
Draw and format for the final tournament is to be
decided by a league vote

LEAGUE SCHEDULE
& PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

1.
Individual Softball B.C. Lifetime Memberships are in
effect and all players AND coaches must have paid their
$10 fee
2.
A player must play a minimum of 3 league games to be
eligible to play in the closing tournament.
(in case of injury/special circumstances, please
refer to the League Executive for a decision on an
individual basis).
Please be aware that EVERY person playing in the
league or closing tournament after the 15th
of June MUST be on a softball B.C. roster, regardless of
extenuating circumstances. Our insurance coverage
demands this.

RESCHEDULING/SCORING
-
1.
The winning team or the home team if the game ends in a
tie is responsible for reporting the score.
Failure to report the score will
result in a double loss.
Also, when reporting the score, please indicate
how many umpires were present to do the game.
2.
In the event of a rain out, each team will be notified
at the earliest opportunity.
There may be cases
when the early game is rained out, but the late one
isn’t.
Rainouts will be re-scheduled by Kris V.
3.
If a team is unable to field a team for any given game,
they must inform Kris V. (re-scheduler/umpire liaison),
AND the opposing team no less than 24 hours before the
game, otherwise the game will be a forfeit.
It is a preferable the you give as much notice as
possible, as we may be able to fit another game into
that timeslot)
4.
If you want a game re-scheduled, you must set up a new
date for the game to be played (and agreed on by the
opposing team) within 7 days of cancelling it.
The game itself doesn’t have to be played within
7 days, just that the re-scheduling has to happen within
7 days.
5.
Each team may re-schedule 3 games per season.
Each game may only be rescheduled once, by each
team.

FIELD AND
EQUIPMENT

1.
The game balls will be kept in the storeroom.
They will be 11” optic yellow, COR .47,
raised seam Dudley Thunder Heat 4C-531Y (from MVP
in Langley) The home team will supply ONE brand new ball
and one good, used ball per game.
At the end of the game, both balls become the
property of the home team.
2.
The home team for each game is responsible for lining
and setting up the bases (6:45 and 8:45
starts during the
week, 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. starts on Sundays).
3.
The visiting team for each game is responsible for
raking the field after the first game each night/Sunday
and for raking and removal/storing of the bases after
the second game.
There cannot be any holes left at home plate or
the pitching mound.
4.
The pitching rubber is to be set at 40' from the tip of
home plate
5.
Composite bats may be used, as long as they have an ASA
approval stamp ON THE BAT (Only those rated 98mph and
less have an ASA approval stamp)

UNIFORMS/MISC.
1.
A minimum team uniform must consist of at least an
unaltered team jersey, which must be tucked in during an
at bat. Numbers must be displayed on back of jersey.
During cold weather, a sweatshirt or under armour
or jacket may be worn UNDER the team uniform (during
offensive play).
Any jacket or sweatshirt may be worn overtop of
the uniform while playing defence (during cold weather)
2.
No player will participate in a game after 3 weeks after
the start of the season starts if they do not have a
team jersey.
3.
All jewellery must be removed before the start of the
game. The only exception is Medical Alert bracelets or
necklaces, which should be mentioned to the umpires
prior to game start.
4.
No short shorts are to be worn
5.
Each team is responsible for and must control their
spectators and players
6.
There will be no smoking on the field by any player,
coach or umpire
7.
Softball B.C. rules will apply to all other aspects of
play
